Most Commonly Confusing Words In English Part V

I have collected a few most commonly confusing words. These words almost pronounced same but they have different meanings and so is different their use. Please keep in mind that in English language each word gives different meaning at different time depending upon its use. In this post I have just pointed out only that meaning of every word that can help you to keep their difference in mind. I hope you would like my effort. I have tried my best to avoid any mistake but still if you find any, please point out that by commenting in the comment box.

1 Difference between Eminent and Imminent:

Eminent means distinguished while Imminent means likely to happen.

To keep their difference in mind please remember that Eminent is used for a famous person like an eminent scholar and so on while Imminent is used for an upcoming event like A storm is imminent.

2 Difference between Event and Accident:

Event means the happening of something important while Accident means the happening of something unexpected.

3 Difference between Faint and Feint:

Faint means lose consciousness or weak or indistinct while Feint means false attack or mock attack.

To keep their difference in mind please remember that Faint for weak has ‘‘A’’ after ‘‘F’’ while Feint for mock attack has ‘‘E’’ instead of ‘‘A’’ after ‘‘F’’.

4 Difference between Fore and Four:

Fore means in front or standing before while Four is a number.

To keep their difference in mind please remember that Fore for in front has no ‘‘U’’ after ‘‘O’’ and also it has ‘‘E’’ in the end while Four has ‘‘U’’ after ‘‘O’’ and it has no ‘‘E’’ in the end.

5 Difference between Formally and Formerly:

Formally means with usual forms or ceremony while Formerly means at an earlier period.

To keep their difference in mind please remember that Formally for ceremony has ‘‘A’’ after ‘‘M’’ and also it has two ‘‘L’’ while Formerly for an earlier has ‘‘E’’ instead of ‘‘A’’ and it has only one ‘‘L’’.

6 Difference between Farther and Further:

Farther means more remote while Further means additional.

To keep their difference in mind please remember that Farther for remote has ‘‘A’’ after ‘‘F’’ while Further for additional has ‘‘U’’ instead of ‘‘A’’.

7 Difference between Farmer and Former:

Farmer means farm-worker while Former means discussed earlier.

To keep their difference in mind please remember that Farmer for field worker has ‘‘A’’ after ‘‘F’’ while Former has ‘‘O’’ instead of ‘‘A’’.

8 Difference between Feat and Feet:

Feat means unbelievable acts of a juggler while Feet is the plural of foot.

To keep their difference in mind please remember that Feat has single ‘‘E’’ and after ‘‘E’’ it has ‘‘A’’ while Feet has two ‘‘E’’ and contain no ‘‘A’’.

9 Difference between Fair and Fare:

Fair means just while Fare means money charged for a journey.

To keep their difference in mind please remember that Fair for just has ‘‘I’’ after ‘‘A’’ while Fare has no ‘‘I’’ after ‘‘A’’ and also it has ‘‘E’’ in the end.

10 Difference between Forth and Fourth:

Forth means in front while Fourth means four number.

To keep their difference in mind please remember that Fourth has ‘‘U’’ after ‘‘O’’ while Forth has no ‘‘U’’.
