Over the past three decades the problem of gender inequality has gained an unprecedented public attention. Today it is considered one of the most vital social issues and is discussed on every platform. Human rights activist and feminists argued that gender equality is the need of time. They argued we can progress only if we have a balance system of equal rights and opportunities for every member of the society. They present the following rationales in support of their arguments.

Before going in detail of the arguments presented by feminists it is important to understand here the concept of equity and equality and the difference between them. Equity means the quality of being fair and impartial while equality means the state of being equal especially in status, rights and opportunities. A large group of feminist and social activists believe in gender equity rather than equality. They argued that both men and women have inherited biological differences that cannot be ignored or evade. Therefore gender equity is in best interest of both the men and women.

In such case both social, political and economic progress seems impossible if half of the world population do not have access to equal rights and opportunities.
Universal Human Equality is Utopic
Similarly equal access to education and other learning programs is possible only through gender equality. A society where women are considered inferior to men and their education is considered useless, how can move it forward and developed.

Generally it is believed that co-environment gives an opportunity to both learners and workers to identify their true hidden talent and promote it. Today the women of 21st century are not less talented than men in any sphere of life. They have proved themselves and their talent in every corner of social, political and economic life. Gender equality will ensure an equal access to opportunities for both men and women which in turn will help promote true talent among the people and thus the whole society will benefit.

Likewise economic prosperity is possible only if every member of the society participate it and he/she is economically independent. By economic independency we mean he/she must earn to make his ends meet. If half of population due to gender biasness stay dependent on other half, how can we prosper?

By quoting the above mentioned reasons gender equality has become a popular slogan of present time. It is on the lips of every noble and common man. The main reason according to feminists is it is the need of time.
